Floating offshore wind holds many advantages over the standard fixed offshore wind but does have disadvantages that can hopefully be overcome in the near future. Now on the verge of commercial maturity, the floating wind industry has the potential to become one of the most crucial forms of renewable energy. Being more flexible and efficient than fixed offshore wind, it also has a much lower environmental impact due to much less anchoring to the ocean bed. Floating wind is certainly favourable but is currently a highly expensive industry.
